This modern multi-use community centre includes a 25-metre, six-lane pool, leisure pool with adjustable floor, aquatics centre, a gymnasium, fitness centre, indoor running track, steam rooms, community multi-use activity rooms, daycare, and a branch of the London Public Library. The facility incorporates many sustainable design features and has achieved LEED Gold Certification.
Several forms of energy recovery are incorporated into the mechanical systems. Air-to-air heat recovery is used for the arena and pool change rooms, while dedicated energy recovery ventilators are connected to the gymnasium and fitness spaces. A pool dehumidification unit is installed that reclaims and transfers compressor heat to the pool water or supply air. "Grey water" from the change room showers is used to pre-heat domestic hot water. All perimeter heating systems have a high-efficiency condensing boiler loop which heats the pool and pre-heats the domestic hot water. The plumbing system uses water-saving fixtures such as dual flush water closets, low flow urinals and lavatories. Most air handling units monitor the space's carbon dioxide levels to reduce energy and improve the indoor air quality. Other building air-handling units employ variable air volume terminals for temperature control, flexibility and energy efficiency.
