Ontario’s largest multi-site hospital amalgamation.
The Niagara Health System Health Care Complex & Walker Familiar Cancer Centre is comprised of six hospital sites (375 beds) and an ambulatory care centre serving 434,000 residents across the 12 municipalities making up the Regional Municipality of Niagara.
The project consistent of a new state-of-the-art hospital in west St. Catharines to support inpatient and outpatient services, including longer-term mental health facilities and mental health inpatient care. The new Walker Family Cancer Centre with capacity for three radiation machines in bunkers and chemotherapy treatment facilities, a cardiac catheterization lab, a full range of acute inpatient and ambulatory services will amalgamate and expand the services of two of the six hospitals comprising the Niagara Health System.
Smith + Andersen provided mechanical and electrical engineering, communications design, and security design.
The new facility is approximately 900,000 square feet, comprising new maternity, operating rooms, emergency department, administration, large preparation kitchen, dialysis, regional cancer care facility, and mental health inpatient. The facility was constructed with sustainability in mind and has achieved LEED Silver certification.
