Space to learn.
This innovative, LEED Gold building provides a new student centre for the University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus. A haven for both collaboration and technology-driven learning, the centre includes a 600-seat lecture theatre, 32 study rooms, and a large informal learning space for students. An immersive theatre with a 270-degree wrap-around and a floor-to-ceiling screen allows instructors to incorporate media-rich audio-visual lessons in their teaching plans.
Smith + Andersen was engaged as electrical design consultant for this new student centre.
A bright place.
By utilizing daylight harvesting and occupancy sensors, all lighting systems have been designed to maximize energy efficiency sources. All lighting solutions provided included high-efficiency LED bulbs.
As an extension of the existing library on campus, the new centre also ties into the centralized campus systems for IT, AV, fire alarm, and emergency power services. Smith + Andersen has worked with the full design and construction team to support the smoothest possible tie-in.
