The Town of Aurora is ushering in a fresh era through the creation of a new cultural precinct. The Aurora Culture Centre was developed as part of this effort. This project includes an addition to the historic Church Street School, a new outdoor square, and a pedestrian bridge connecting the new building to the existing library. It also includes a renovation and small expansion to the library, creating a connected destination for arts, culture, and community life.

A great place to gather.
Designed to support a wide range of community activities, the cultural centre and public square provide flexible spaces for concerts, markets, dramatic and visual arts programming, and museum and archival functions. A multi-purpose performance room can be configured to accommodate up to 250 patrons in tiered theatre seating, transforming to meet the needs of different events. Supporting this flexibility required close collaboration between the electrical team and theatre consultant to develop solutions that could accommodate the space's diverse uses and changing performance requirements.
Filtering out the noise.
Delivering a high-quality performance environment required careful coordination across disciplines. The mechanical team worked extensively with acoustical specialists to incorporate construction details and design strategies that eliminated or minimized noise from HVAC systems that could affect the audience experience. The result is an exceptionally quiet space designed to achieve Noise Criteria ratings between NC-15 and NC-20. Sustainability was also a key project driver, contributing to a 19% reduction in energy consumption and a 27% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
